The Shoes That Fit program sponsored by Rack Room Shoes benefits thousands of school children who need shoes each year throughout the country. We have found that even a pair of new shoes can often mean the difference between a child succeeding or failing in school and into the future. Their self esteem rises and they can focus more on their studies than their dire circumstances. There are countless, heartwarming stories of how these kids benefited from the Shoes That Fit program and we would like to share those with you and others on a special Shoes That Fit Blog. Pink Jelly Shoes

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

One day, school staff found a third grade boy who had been absent for some time hiding in the bushes outside the school office. When the principal coaxed the boy out from the bushes, she noticed that he was wearing his sister’s pink plastic jelly shoes. Understandably, the boy had been too embarrassed to come to school. The principal contacted the Shoes That Fit sponsor Rack Room Shoes and the boy received new shoes that same day. He never missed another day for the rest of the school year.
